Examples are weather<\/span>&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">related storms, floods, and earthquakes. <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Personal<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">accomplishment<\/span>&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">includes learning new technical details relating to radio theory, radio propagation,<\/span>&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">and digital communication.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Additionally they visit via radio with other hams across town<\/span>&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">or across the world, using the simplest (or most sophisticated and expensive)<\/span>&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">of radio setups and antennas, and they have great fun! As has been chronicled<\/span>&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">with the internet, many a romance has been fostered through the facilities<\/span>&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">of amateur radio.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Who Are Hams?<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Anyone can be a ham radio operator&#8211;no matter what age, gender,<\/span>&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">or physical ability. There are no limits! Amateur radio operators range in<\/span>&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">age from under 6 years to over 100. But in times<\/span>&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">of need, hams are transformed into self-trained public service communicators,<\/span>&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">ready and able to help their neighbors during emergencies and natural disasters.<\/span>&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Hams enjoy practicing for these times by sending Radiograms &#8212; free personal<\/span>&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">messages&#8212; from anyone to anyone, anywhere in the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; As with most hobbies, you have a multitude<\/span>&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">of choices about how much time and money you invest.
